I'm a researcher and designer who loves tackling thorny problems, discovering new cocktail recipes, and hunting for old records. I spent four years at 18F, leading research and design. I helped build and launch services like get.gov, worked on metadata to train large language models for AI, and contributed to reports submitted to Congress in collaboration with the White House. I get to continue my work on permitting as the lead of the new Permitting Technology practice at EPIC.
Things I love to do
Listen to people share their stories and gain a deeper understanding of their goals and needs, then synthesize those insights into designs, prototypes, and recommendations for teams across the organization.
Facilitate collaboration between designers and product managers to streamline the research process and reduce project turnaround times.
Embedded research with product development teams, from program design, desk research, qualitative interviews, usability testing, and releases.
Speak in front of rooms, cameras, and audiences as a presenter, emcee, and workshop facilitator.
Spend my off-hours digging in record bins and bookstores.
Learning new cocktail recipes and techniques.
Add to my twenty-plus-year collection of Christmas music playlists.
Fun Fact
My house, a church built in the late 1800s, gained fame when Niantic designated it a Pokémon Go gym. I got to talk to people worldwide and took a crash course in augmented reality. That experience connected me with AR researchers across the globe, including the fantastic Greg Lindsay, and I had the opportunity to contribute to his work on The Augmented City.
Case studies, references, recipes, and Christmas music playlist suggestions are gladly provided upon request.
